How Keri lost 83.1 kg in just under two years
Amazingly, Keri managed to turn it around and was on her own in just under two years.
“This journey began the day I was admitted to the hospital for my prenatal appointment,” she says.
“The moment I stepped on the scale was embarrassing and painful, not only because I now know my size but also now that a stranger knew it and was writing it down on paper. It made it so real.”
“28 years 183 kg and pregnant. A very dangerous combination. At that moment my heart sank, all the thoughts that came flying. How can I have a child this big?”
“I have many lifelong health problems, most of which could have been avoided had I not gained such weight, if I had taken better care of my body.”
183 kg to 99.9 kg
But Keri says you can’t undo your mistakes, you can just decide not to make them anymore.
“And that is what I did. On that day about two years ago I said ‘enough’ and made small but important changes in my life,” she says.
“Through diet and exercise, I have been able to treat and manage all of my health issues to the point where you don’t even know I have them.”
In fact, Keri says she has been very strict about her lifestyle choices and what she puts in her body.
“I was able to cure my high cholesterol, sort out my liver function, and I was able to manage my knee arthritis as well as my gallbladder issues without any major issues or recurring pain,” she says.
“As of today, all of my blood tests are back completely and free of any issues. I have noticed many changes in my physical appearance and mental health.
“Exercise makes me happy, it starts my days off in a positive way. I think it has made me a better mother, and it gave me the energy and motivation to want to do things with my kids.”
What does Keri eat on a normal day?
“I used Healthy mummy juices A lot during my trip, it made it easier to control the amount of calories I put into my body.
“My typical meals are chicken and salad/vegetables or salmon and salad/veggies. I have stopped eating most red meat and processed foods. I have a bowl of yogurt and some fresh fruit every day. It helps to get rid of cravings for sweets.
Some of our family’s favorite healthy mummy recipes are sausageAnd the Weet-Bix slide and the 2 ingredients of pizza dough It was amazing making pizza.”
When it comes to exercise, Keri is a huge fan of it healthy mummy exercisessuch as Dance Fit with Fi.
“I also use my sport bike every day and often ride 30km a day. I recently started getting into Tabata Boxing. It’s a fun workout,” she says.
“I never thought I would love mountain climbing, but the top of the mountain is where I feel completely at peace. I’ve climbed all I can within an hour of my house. Several times.”
3 Keri’s tips for success
1. They always appear. It doesn’t matter how little you exercise – everything is better than nothing.
2. Be gentle with yourself. Look for the positives, not the negatives.
3. Forgive yourself. No trip without errors.
My advice to anyone trying to lose weight is not to compare yourself to others. she says.
“What’s right for you may not be what others do. Most of all, talk to your GP. Take care to make sure there are no conditions that might cause you to gain weight.”
“I used to be the mom who sat in the lounge watching Netflix and eating junk food and taking it outside. Now I’m the mom who gets up at four in the morning to exercise, wants to go to the beach, and I bought a kayak!”
“I found a sense of adventure that I didn’t know I had. The outside world is so new to me. I remember initially struggling for a 10-minute bike ride, and now I exercise for up to two hours a day.”
“I dreamed of the day I would be under 100kg, I feel like I finally succeeded. This is not the end of my story though. It is only the beginning. I have a lot of life to catch on.”
