As a fashion journalist, I get excited when I find the best wardrobe items. Some of those end up becoming more like ensemble pieces that I don’t get into often but still bring me joy, while others become part of my whole identity (yes, I’m a major clothing repeater). When I find something I genuinely love, I am will Buy it in multiple colors. Case in point: After months of searching for the best coats, I fell in love with the Pistola Grover Short Sleeve Field Suit ($168) and now own several pairs (including the shorts style) in various colors. I love the way these coats fit and how easy they are to style, which is how I’ve found another clothing item I can’t live without right now: Amazon Essentials Women’s Classic Fit Crewneck ($16—and have it in six colors.
Last fall, I imagined myself wearing my beloved dark ivy green Grover Field suit with a long-sleeved black and white stripe underneath. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money because it would technically be an undershirt and my L.A. wardrobe doesn’t need a ton of cold-weather staples, thanks to the year-round sunshine. So, I headed to Amazon to find a good basic long sleeve in a classic black and white stripe print. It didn’t take long for me to discover the Amazon Essentials Classic-Fit Long-Sleeve Crewneck Shoe, which costs less than $20 and has 4.4 stars from more than 20,000 customers. I was intrigued and hit the “try before you buy” button.
Honest review
Upon receiving the long sleeve, I was instantly sold on the striped print – it was exactly what i imagined The lines have the perfect thickness, not too thin and striped-looking, but not too thick, either, giving them a timeless feel and a look that I know will remain modern, despite ever-changing trends.
Next was the fabric. I was actually shocked at the quality of the fabric, especially considering its $16 price tag. The material is made of 56 percent cotton and 37 percent modal with 7 percent elastane. They are soft to the touch with plenty of stretch, which allows them to fit like a glove. It’s also not very thin, so it’s not see-through at all, which isn’t always the case with a cheap top like this.
After wearing it under my aprons—and with so many other looks—almost every day for a week (I promise I’ll wash it!), I knew I needed more than one in my wardrobe. Fortunately, the long sleeve comes in 28 different colors, including staples like black, white, and gray and fun pops of color like red, bright blue, and pink. I picked five new colors and have since worn them under cardigans, denim jackets, under cable-knit sweaters (which added warmth while we were visiting Canada at the end of winter), and by themselves a pair of high-waisted, high-waisted jeans. since then.
We love the end of an affordable fashion tale!
