My skin has never been in harmony with my makeup brushes. Using it to set powder on my forehead would inevitably leave me with breakouts, and even gently dusting shadow on my eyelids (As my eczematous skin tends to be drier and more sensitive) would cause irritation and flaking. To avoid all of this—especially during the colder months, when my skin is a bit flakier—I usually steer clear of makeup brushes, but my breakout stop came to an end when I found Merit’s Blending Brush ($30).

How did you like Merit’s Blending Brush?

Quite simply, all of the issues I’ve had with makeup brushes in the past just… do not exist with this one.

It’s made with plant-based bristles and feels soft down to the stroke so it doesn’t irritate my easily irritated skin. Moreover, the bristles are packed in a lightweight and simple barrel that is easy to hold and maneuver. The entire brush measures the length of my hand, which makes it easy to slip into my purse or purse for whenever I need a touch-up on the go.

What I love about this brush is the dense bristles that make application easy. The brushes i have used in the past for both eye shadow and blush seemed to hold the pigment hostage, wasting more product and less friction on my skin.

Using this blending brush has been a lifesaver in my makeup routine. I no longer have to go around my skin with harsh bristles or sacrifice makeup setting altogether. For anyone who wants to set makeup but suffers from eczema, sensitive or dry skin, i highly recommend this brush. Since using it, I have not gone back to my previous bed, and I intend to stick to it for years to come.
