I wanted to do a happy dance down the aisle at Costco when I saw this organic Kirkland feta from Greece, and now this is my favorite feta! In this post, I share why I love this product so much, and some of my favorite recipes that use feta.
You probably can’t help noticing that I’m an ardent consumer of feta cheese! For years, I’ve been buying Feta blocks at Costco and they always had different brands of Feta come in a block. But feta milk 100% from sheep’s milk has always been the kind that I like the most. Then recently I was walking through a massive SLC Costco and spotted this Kirkland Organic Vita from GreeceNew Costco vita sheep’s milk, a global shake! This post will talk about why I like special feta cheese so much, and share some recipe ideas I love to use!
Feta cheese is a real Costco bargain!
My apologies to those who don’t live near Costco, but for those who shop there, I felt I should point out the new Kirkland Organic Feta, because at $9.99 for nearly two pounds of creamy Greek sheep’s milk feta, that’s such a bargain! I’m lucky to live near The biggest Costco in the world, but since this is a Kirkland product, I suspect that eventually most Costcos will carry it and hopefully soon you will be able to order it from Costco.com.
Why I like sheep’s milk Vita so much:
This Costco Organic Feta Cheese is 100% Feta Sheep’s Milk! All types of feta cheese contain sheep’s milk, but some are made from a mixture of sheep’s milk and goat’s milk. I find pure sheep’s milk feta to be milder and creamier than those with goat’s milk. And after discovering this new Greek feta at Costco, I tried it on my Greek friends Marie and Loretta, and they both declared it to be very good!
How do I keep a big block of feta cheese good in the fridge?
This feta comes in brine and I’ve found various sources online that say refrigerated feta in brine will keep good for several months. But I might not buy such a big bundle of Feta if I didn’t have it Food saver vacuum sealer (affiliate link)! Feta comes in four separate flat blocks, and I seal each one inside a plastic bag with a FoodSaver, which will keep well in the fridge for months! Is feta cheese low in carbohydrates?
Delicious feta cheese contains less than one gram of carbs per serving, which definitely makes me love it even more! Check your packaging, but I’m sure every brand of Vita will be extremely low in carbs.
What do I love to make with feta cheese?
- I love salads with feta cheese, and my blog contains so many of them that I chose them Top ten salads with feta cheese! If I had to choose from those ten favourites, there are two salads I make regularly Pepperoncini salad with romaine, capsicum and feta And the Broccoli salad with feta cheese and almonds. And of course, Greek-American salad with lettuce It’s a salad I bring back over and over again!
