Share the details on how to clean your Peloton bike, and keep it feeling fresh and new, even with lots of use. Check out my post on how to set up your Peloton bike here!
Hi friends! How is the morning? I hope you had a nice and happy weekend after Thanksgiving. We’ve done some decorating (the yard is done!), got our tree (after years with a fake tree, we switched to Team Real Tree a few years ago and I’m a huge fan), and had a great dinner with friends.
For today’s post, I wanted to share the details on how to clean your Peloton bike, especially to my friends who are expecting it to be their very own Santa gift this year. 😉 I’ve been a proud owner of the Peloton for about 4 years now, and even though I don’t ride as much as I used to, I still hop on the bike about once a week. It makes it so easy to get a cardio workout at home (even when the kids are home!), and I love that I don’t have to waste time commuting. It’s my go-to on super busy days when I still want to get a little moving.
How to clean a peloton bike
I like to keep things neat at home, but it takes on a new layer when it’s workout gear. Equipment like the Peloton can collect dust, sweat, bacteria, and fingerprints, and while it may look unattractive, it can also ultimately affect the functionality of the equipment. (I learned this from years of working in gyms and studios.) Cleaning your Peloton bike regularly can help avoid unwanted odor and damage, but you can also damage your Peloton bike with improper cleaning. You definitely want to keep the screen on and make sure it keeps working!
Today I dedicate this post to help my friends out there clean their Peloton bike properly and to share products that are safe to use in cleaning Peloton bikes.
How to clean a peloton bike
Peloton tire
I clean my Peloton chassis and resistance knobs after every sweaty ride. If there are sweat stains anywhere, everything will be wiped off. If I’m walking around leisurely and listening to music (I use it for an active recovery day), I don’t wipe it off. The best time to clean a tire is right after your ride, because you’ll always remember to do it.
Peloton Accessories
I will clean the weights once every few weeks or so. Since they don’t camp to sweat and I’m the only one using them, I feel like they could hold up much longer.
Monitor
I will clean the screen once every few weeks. It doesn’t tend to get sweaty or get many fingerprints on it, but I like to make sure it’s clean every few weeks. I use the same wipe to clean my computer screen. * Make sure to use a different screen cleaner than the one you use for the frame (details below).
mat
I clean the mat under the peloton after every sweaty ride. I have the same rule for Hulk: If I see sweat, all things are wiped out.
pedals
The pedals are cleaned every two months. I just make sure there is no dust in the clamps and I sanitize the pedals.
What to use to clean a peloton bike
cleaning wipes
Aim for nontoxic wipes that don’t contain bleach, and avoid abrasive products. I like to use antibacterial wipes (Like these!) And it’s also non-toxic, since I would touch the wipes with my hands. Word on the street is that you can also use baby wipes, which won’t corrode the frame material, but aren’t antibacterial.
Cleaning spray
Instead of wet wipes, you can also use a cleaning spray, like this one. Instead of spraying directly onto the peloton, spray the towel and then wipe down the bike. You can use a cleaning spray for the frame, resistance knob, and accessories.
Microfiber towel
use Soft microfiber towel It will not corrode into the material.
Screen cleaner
Be sure to use a screen cleaner made specifically for LCD or other flat panel displays. This is the one I use and love! I don’t recommend using Windex or spraying anything directly onto the screen. It can leave strange smudges. It’s worth getting a cleaner designed for this type of screen.
* You can use the above cleaners on your Peloton bike, treadmill or rower!
Tell me, friends: How often do you clean your exercise equipment?
Do you feel like Peloton has lost its luster a bit, or are you still a believer? I still love him as much as ever.
Have a great morning and see you soon!
xoxo
Jenna
