Raise your hand if you’ve picked up some bad eating habits in your relationship – like snacking while watching TV at night or eating more.
Don’t worry, we’ve all been there! It happens when you two are comfortable together. You end up looking forward to watching a true crime documentary while sharing a piece of chocolate after the kids go to bed.
However, Ashana Spinelli and her husband, Matthew Spinelli, decided it was time to nip these bad habits in the bud. (Note we’re talking about chocolate mass, we’re not saying you should turn off Netflix and chill time!)
Amazingly, they lost 47 kg between them after 28 day weight loss challenge. Here’s how they did it…
Break bad habits as a couple
This dynamic duo realized they were feeling stagnant and decided to make a change, Statistics.
“I think when you’re in a marriage or a relationship, you tend to fall into the same habits they do,” 39-year-old Ashana says.
“For us, it was the weight gain and the horrible food choices we shared. But when I told my husband I couldn’t go on, he agreed we needed to make a change.
“I told my husband that I was serious about this and needed his support, and I am so grateful he was able to give me.”
But instead of eliminating their stocks and achieving unrealistic goals, they started small-scale food swaps Health mummy application.
“Replace white rice with brown chocolate and dark chocolate,” Says ,
“Healthy eating doesn’t have to be restrictive and bland. From the point of exercise, do what you can but just move. It doesn’t need to be strenuous.
“Take the stairs, park further away from the shops, and don’t stand still on the escalator. Move.”
Matthew only exercised a couple of months ago and Ashana hasn’t pressured him, she says she inspired him.
“He wanted to join because it looked fun and he could see the results I was getting. Not only him, but the whole family as well.”
How Matthew jumped in the health trolley
Matthew says that drinking and snacking poorly have become part of the norm for him.
“I was sluggish and lacked the motivation to go anywhere. I fell asleep every morning, always hitting the snooze button,” He confessed.
“When my wife Ashana came to me and said she needed to make healthy changes, I agreed to do it together.
“Since you joined healthy mummyWe mainly eat stir fry for dinner because it’s quick and easy and we took the time to measure portion sizes. I was shocked to find out I was eating two portions for dinner, and even the snacks were more like meals! “

Incredibly, it took Matt five months to lose 25 kg!
“I lost a few kilos but kept losing 22 kilos for 15 months,” He says.
“I decided to start exercising as well and would get out of bed early to go for my morning run. I really like jogging now which is my main form of exercise but we have a great selection of weights and kettle bells etc now that I use from time to time.

The best thing about Matt is how much energy he has.
“I’m waking up normally now, nicely and early, no more snooze buttons. We still have a drink from time to time but give up wine for gin and soda and limit our intake,” He says.
“I feel confident at the beach with my family and can keep up with the kids and their endless energy.”
Tips for this couple to form good habits
- If you are tired, rest and come back. Don’t overdo it as you are likely to make poor choices
- Prepare your meals together for this week
- Make exercise fun and involve the whole family
- Treat yourself differently. Kid-free time can be running instead of having dinner or drinks
- Don’t pressure the other person to exercise or eat healthy food, they may want to do the same when they see you doing it
- Be open and honest with each other about the changes you want to make
