Cases of COVID-19 in Canada have reached their lowest levels so far in 2021.
The average daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Canada is below 2,000 for the first time since early October and the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is the lowest since November.
The daily average over the past week was 1,798 new cases, the lowest average since October 2, 2020. It dropped just below 2,000 cases on Sunday, to an average of 1,966 new cases over the previous seven days.
The last time the national average number was under 2,000 was on October 12, 2020.

As of 1:30 p.m. ET, Canada has reported 1,395,015 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 21,954 considered active. CBC News’ death toll is 25,786. More than 26.7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far across the country, according to the CBC Vaccine Tracker.
Ontario On Tuesday it reported 18 deaths and 469 new cases of COVID-19. The county reported hospitalizations of 621 people, with 481 people in intensive care units due to COVID-19.
Top Ontario health officials said this week that the delta variant of COVID-19 has been detected across the province and is likely to become the dominant strain, as was the case earlier in the pandemic with more aggressive variants. However, they say the vaccinations appeared to protect people with the variant from developing severe disease, especially those who received two doses.

In Prairie Counties, residents of Manitobans who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will soon be able to travel within Canada without having to self-isolate when returning to Manitoba.
Prime Minister Brian Pallister said Tuesday that new safe vaccination cards will be available for people who have received both doses. It will exempt cardholders from the current rule that requires people to self-isolate for 14 days. The card will also allow people to visit loved ones in hospitals and personal care homes.

Intended as a temporary measure until the province is fully vaccinated, Manitoba President Brian Pallister announced the release of a safe immunization card on Tuesday. Pallister said the card would give holders privileges, including the right to visit family and friends at nursing homes or health care facilities. 2:06

SaskatchewanMeanwhile, it has reported three additional deaths and 68 new cases of COVID-19.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, more than 173.7 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported worldwide, according to a tracking tool from Johns Hopkins University. The reported global death toll has reached more than 3.7 million.
The head of emergencies at the United Nations health agency said that COVID-19 vaccination coverage of more than 80 per cent is necessary to reduce the chance of significantly imported coronavirus cases or a wider outbreak of the disease.

Meanwhile, Nepal resumed its stalled coronavirus vaccination campaign on Tuesday with one million doses provided by China after the Himalayan country made international appeals for help. The vaccination campaign in Nepal began in January but was halted when neighboring India suffered a surge in coronaviruses and banned exports of its AstraZeneca vaccine.
In the Americas, New York will lift more COVID-19 rules once 70 percent of adults get at least one dose of a vaccine, Governor Andrew Cuomo hopes the state will arrive within days.
Nearly 69 percent of adults in New York have received at least one vaccination dose, according to the latest federal data.
In the Middle east, Kuwait has approved a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson, Kuwait News Agency reported.
