BLT Salad is a delicious low carb lunch or side dish for a low carb meal that’s great when it’s not yet tomato season in the garden! Of course if it’s tomato season in the garden, use them for this amazing salad!
Pin this salad to make it later!
This is fast and easy BLT Salad This is a recipe that can help you when you start craving garden tomatoes, but it’s not yet fresh season tomatoes. The salad uses perfectly ripe cherry tomatoes, perfectly crisp pieces of thick sliced bacon, romaine lettuce, and a perfect garlic salad dressing that adds flavor to the other ingredients. I first made this a few years ago using pre-cooked crumbled bacon, but since then I’ve been making it using slices of thicker bacon cut into large pieces and cooked until crisp, so I’m updating the recipe with new pictures that show the way I like it now. And I love this power!
Of course you should make the salad with diced tomatoes if it’s tomato season and you have some fresh tomatoes in the garden! And the salad is low in carbs, so you may want to add more tomatoes if it’s fresh tomato season. You can also add more bacon if you like the sound of it! But seriously, no matter how you adjust the recipe, this BLT salad will always be quick, easy, and delicious!
What ingredients do you need for this recipe?
- Lettuce
- Chopped tomatoes or cherry tomatoesطماطم
- Thick sliced bacon
- green onion
- olive oil
- white balsamic vinegar (affiliate link)
- garlic powder (affiliate link)
- Salt and fresh black pepper to taste
How to make this salad:
(Scroll down for a complete recipe with nutritional information.)
- We used thick slices of bacon, and cut them into large pieces. (Make sure the bacon has no added sugar if you’re watching the carbs.)
- Add chopped bacon to a hot skillet and cook until bacon is crisp.
- Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain it on paper towels.
- Some people may want to use some of the bacon fat to replace part of the oil in the marinade, your choice!
- Romaine lettuce is shredded relatively small and washed in ice water, at a rotary salad (Referral link) If you have one.
- If you don’t have a salad bowl, simply wash the lettuce in a bowl and pat it dry with paper towels. Put the lettuce in the salad bowl.
- Cut the cherry tomatoes in half, or chop the larger tomatoes, whichever you use, and chop the green onions into slices.
- Whisk the sauce ingredients together. Salad will also be great with favourites Newman’s original recipe with olive oil and vinaigrette (affiliate link)
- Stir the lettuce with the sauce, then add the other ingredients and stir again.
- If you had fresh tomatoes in the garden, the salad would be even better, but even the early summer cherry tomatoes I used were great!

Ingredients
-
6 cups shredded romaine lettuce (or a little more)
-
1 cup chopped tomatoes or cherry tomatoes (see notes)
-
8 thick slices of bacon
-
1/4 cup finely chopped green onion
Sauce Ingredients:
-
4 tons of olive oil
-
2 tons white balsamic vinegar خل
-
1 tsp. garlic powder
-
Salt and fresh black pepper to taste
instructions
- We used thicker Kirkland bacon strips from Costco, and cut them into large chunks.
- Then add the chopped bacon to a hot skillet and cook until the bacon is crisp.
- Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain it on paper towels.
- I love shredded romaine lettuce for this salad. You want the flavors to be well distributed in the salad, so shred the lettuce a little.
- Wash the lettuce in ice water in a rotary salad (Referral link) If you have one, wash and dry it with paper towels. (This may be optional, but washing the lettuce in ice water makes it more crunchy.)
- Put the lettuce in the salad bowl.
- Cut cherry tomatoes in half, or chop larger tomatoes, whatever you’re using.
- Cut green onions into slices.
- Whisk the dressing ingredients together (or use your favorite sugar-free vinaigrette).
- Stir the lettuce with the sauce, then add the other ingredients and stir again.
- Serve immediately.
- If that makes you more than you’ll eat at one time, I’ll wash the lettuce, make the sauce, and store it in the fridge. Then cook the bacon and chop the cherry tomatoes before eating the rest of the salad.
Notes
Check the ingredients for bacon. The thick sliced Kirkland bacon we used had no added sugar. Definitely make this salad with chopped fresh garden tomatoes if you’re lucky enough to have some!

Low carb/low glycemic diet? South Beach Diet Suggestions:
This Easy BLT salad would come in handy for low-carb, low-glycemic diets, and I personally have had it on the South Beach diet as well. The original South Beach Diet doesn’t recommend bacon because it contains saturated fat, but you can use turkey if you’re strict about it!

Historical notes for these recipes
This delicious salad was first published in 2015, and the original version used crumbled bacon. The recipe was updated in 2021 with my current preference for thicker slices of cooked bacon before preparing the salad. Make it the way you like, of course!
